Vanguard Presbytery will have its first in-person presbytery meeting on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Chalcedon Presbyterian Church in Cumming, GA. The meeting will be live-streamed and is open to any visitors who want to attend as observers.
The meeting will begin at 9 AM EST and will continue through the day until all business is concluded. The morning session will consist only of worship and prayer. Dr. Al Baker will preach on “Revival Prayer” and Rev. Patrick Hines will preach on a subject of his choosing. There will be an extended period of prayer by the commissioners and the Lord’s Supper will be served before presbytery recesses for lunch. All business of the presbytery will be conducted after lunch. The meeting will be similar to Vanguard’s Convocation in Nashville, TN on July 30, 2020.
There are several ministers who have already told me that they are looking forward to this Presbytery meeting. There were one or two such meetings that I eagerly anticipated when I was first ordained, but the emphasis on “business first” soon rid me of that eagerness. Vanguard Presbytery believes that prayer and worship are the first orders of business of every church court. We desire that every church court meeting be like a little slice of heaven. Our meetings should be like heaven on earth that are eagerly anticipated.
There are several hotels in the Cumming, GA area. We will try to arrange some good deals for all the commissioners at some of the hotels. If you are planning to attend, you should arrange to arrive on Thursday and leave on Saturday, unless you live close enough to commute to the meeting. There are some commissioners who have mentioned the desire to spend time in evangelism (either street preaching or door-to-door evangelism). If anyone is interested in that, please contact Vanguard’s Evangelist-at-large, Al Baker at al.baker1952@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Dewey Roberts, Moderator of Vanguard Presbytery
