Dear friends,
The PCA Study Committee released their report last Thursday morning and that report has now apparently been removed from the PCA website. I was finishing my sermon last Thursday and did not have time to write a review of it. I also like to analyze such things carefully before reaching a conclusion. Last Friday, my wife and I traveled to the New Orleans area to perform the wedding of the daughter of one of my elders and returned home on Saturday. Yesterday was the Lord’s Day. Today I am traveling to a nearby state to visit with several pastors and elders from various churches. I will return Tuesday night. On Wednesday I plan to write up a review of the Study Committee report (which thankfully I have saved to my computer).
I have a very unfavorable view of the report. Nearly a year ago I told you what the parameters for the report would have to be. It would have to affirm the doctrinal positions of the Westminster Standards while encouraging the practical acceptance by the church of the LGBTQ community who refer to themselves as gay Christians. It did both those things. I would simply recommend that you should not be dazzled by the glitter in the report. Not all that glitters is gold. Also remember what P. T. Barnum said, “You can fool some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” I am not fooled by this report and you should not be either.
In Him,
Dewey Roberts, Pastor at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Destin, FL
